How can we Build an Active Movement in Manchester?: Community Feedback

This year we’ve been super keen to scope out feedback from you guys, our wonderful Tech for Good Live community, on what you’d like to see more of at our monthly events. We designed our January event in order to catch this feedback, read below to learn more!

Thank you to everyone who contributed their thoughts at our January event. After speaking to some of you one-to-one and collecting your post-it notes and feedback forms we found that 5 key themes have emerged in the data gathered.

These themes are:

1) Connecting tech volunteers with ‘for good’ projects or job roles

2) Holding small purpose-driven groups to tackle social issues

3) Holding a space for networking

4) Creating a platform for inspiration

5) Keeping the TFGL community up to date on global/national tech for good initiatives and news

The last three themes are already well embedded in the Tech for Good Live strategy and we’re committed to continuously developing and delivering these components. At each of our events, we encourage networking both before and after our talks, you can even stuff your face with pizza if this helps. We are planning on enhancing this part of the evening even more by offering name tags and stickers for conversation starters, so watch this space if this is something you really enjoy at our events.

Creating a space for inspiration and keeping our followers up to date on the latest tech for good news and initiatives is a core part of our work. Make sure to check out our weekly podcasts here, come to our speaker led events and follow us on Twitter!

Looking forward we would like to enhance our work around themes 1 and 2. Theme 1 has helped further inform our decision making around the delivery of our brand new Slack Community and monthly newsletter. Make sure you sign up to these to keep up to date on opportunities in the tech for good community. We will be expanding in both of these spaces moving forward.

We’re also inspired at the idea of developing purpose-driven meetups to tackle social issues. This is an area currently in development so make sure to stay tuned on our Meetup for upcoming event hackathons this year as we explore exciting new ways of focused engagement.
